Invaluable Free Resource for Knitting and Crochet

Hello my friends!
Today I want to share with you exactly what the title of this post says: An invaluable free resource for knitting and crochet! I have been following the blog of New Stitch a Day for a while now because each day Johnny Vasquez shares two video tutorials, one knitting and one crochet, of a new stitch....FREE. He is very easy to understand and follow. He also occasionally shares links to other patterns we may enjoy, has all of his videos conveniently listed under his Video Stichionary for us to easily access AND offers free live video classes! There is a membership option that you can pay for to get exclusive goodies and download abilities, etc, but as much as I'd love to join, I don't financially have that option right now and that's ok, because the wealth of free info he provides is astounding and generous! For example.....

Today Johnny is having one of his free live video classes. It's called "Colorwork Knitting 102 - Double Knitting" and there is one from 10am - 11am PST and another from 6pm - 7pm PST. You do need to register for it, and I encourage you to go do so now!

Just for the record, I do not get paid for or reimbursed in any way by anyone for sharing this info with you. I just think it's a pretty darn awesome resource and didn't want to be stingy and keep it all to myself. ☺ I am also going to add the link to my sidebar for future reference.

On a personal note, I hope that you have been doing absolutely amazing! Since going back to work on the 7th after a two week break for the holidays, I have been absolutely swamped at work! Also, on December 29, 2012 I re-joined Weight Watchers. I also joined a local gym that is an extension of our local hospital. So far, by the Lord's strength and grace, I have lost 7.2 lbs! I am absolutely giddy with excitement! I will probably share some of my successes, and even some failures here, but I will be sharing more detailed on a blog that I started specifically for my healthy journey if you're interested. Some days it's just my stats from my food and activity tracker, but others I talk about what I'm feeling and/or going through. I hope to one day been an inspiration to someone else who has a large amount of weight to lose. It also adds that extra layer of accountability for me to see it through.

I have been knitting and crocheting alot, but I've been trying to find a pattern that works well with a certain yarn that I have and I'll get started on a pattern, not like how it is working up in that yarn and end up frogging it. I think I've finally found the pattern that's going to work! I hope to be able to share my results with you soon. ☺

I hope you have an abundantly blessed day!

Sunday Crochet....and a Simple Pattern

Have I mentioned that I have the worst internet provider ever? For months now we do good to have internet  35% of the time. We call and they act clueless or outright lie (we've caught them in a few of those)...and that's if we can even get ahold of them at all...most times we get voicemail and they never return our calls at all. Unfortunately, the only other option we've had for internet is through the phone company which isn't near as fast as our cable internet -- when it's actually up and running anyway. This last stint (we've gone through this before) would have had me running to the phone company, but we're planning on moving within the next couple of months, so it seems pointless to change now. Words cannot express how frustrating it is! It's like going to the grocery store and paying for $100 worth of groceries, but they only let you walk out with $25 worth. Aaarrggghh!

The up side is that I've had more opportunity to do other things! After doing some design work for PPS today, I whipped up this stick shifter knob cozy for my niece.

She's been wanting me to make her one for the longest and I had bought the type of yarn she was wanting forever ago, but just hadn't gotten around to it. I came across the yarn today and determined I was going to get it made TO-day, come what may! Just so happened that Damon got Jeremy a new shifter knob for Christmas and it was handy so I didn't even have to measure, I just tried it on that as I went along. ☺
Here's what I did:

Eyelash/Fuzzy Yarn, Bulky (5) yarn (I'm thinking that this would almost HAVE to be made with a very fuzzy yarn or it would be too open/lacey with regular yarn)
US J hook

ch = chain
dc = double crochet
st = stitch
sts = stitches
dc2tog = double crochet next two stitches together
sc = single crochet

ch 4, join to make ring
Round 1: dc 9 in ring, join
Round 2: Ch 2, dc in same st, 2 dc in next st & each remaining st around, join (18 sts)
Round 3-4: Ch 2, *dc in next st & each remaining st around, join (18 sts)
Round 5: Ch 2, dc2tog, dc in next 6 sts, dc2tog, dc in each remaining sts around, join (16 sts)
Round 6: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join, fasten of & weave in ends.

...Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! I pray that 2013 brings you abundant blessings and nothing but happiness!

(Please forgive me for being a day late. I tried and tried all day yesterday to post this, but my internet has been down and living in a rural area, our wi-fi hotspot via our phones isn't the best when we are home.)

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. --Jeremiah 29:11
