A Sweet Treat

Guess what I've been dabbling in????
It's my very first cake (that I made for someone else, anyway)!
What do you think? I sure did enjoy making it.

Hope you have a wonderfully sweet week!!

  1. That's a beautiful cake. I think I would have a hard time cutting into it - I wouldn't want to mess it up. :)

  2. Thank you Debi and Yvette!

Yvette, once upon a time I took the first two Wilton's cake decorating classes at Michael's craft store, but didn't follow through with what I had learned because, at the time, I couldn't afford a good stand-up mixer to make the icing with (I had already burnt up the motor in a vintage KitchenAid stand-up and two hand-held mixers).

A very special young lady that I met through my job wanted to give her little sister a very special birthday, but couldn't afford to pay for a nice cake, so I thought I would try my hand at it. It is a chocolate cake covered in buttercream icing, the zebra stripes are made with Wilton's Sugar Sheets and the pink K and beads around the base are made with fondant....the birthday girl loved it! ...as did the rest of her family, and I was absolutely honored to have had the chance to bring a smile to their faces (they've been through quite a bit over the last little while). ♥

  5. Anita,
This cake is amazing! I love it! How many sugar sheets did you need for it? I am going to attempt to create one very similar on Thursday. Thanks so much!

  6. Thank you Courtney!
I used one Sugar Sheet for this cake. If you make a two tier cake you may need a second sheet. Have fun! ♥

    1. Did you apply it as one solid sheet, or did you cut it into sections? Do you by chance have any more tips? I plan to do 2 tiers with white buttercream on the outside. Thank you so much! I can only hope mine turns out half as good as this one!

  7. Hello again Courtney!
I didn't use the zebra print Sugar Sheet....I used the black sugar sheet and used a pizza cutter to cut the zebra stripes. It was actually a pretty simple design, just do a google search for zebra print and use it as a visual for how to place the stripes. If it were me I'd ice both tier and go ahead and stack them first, then put the zebra stripes on. You are more than welcome! Thank you for the compliment. I'd love to see how it turns out!! ♥
