Coffee Cozy

I got some more knitting done last night, and what a pleasurable little knit!

The pattern I used is the Owl Cable Knit Coffee Cozy by Crystal Lybrink, a free download on Ravelry. I don't have any buttons on hand for the eyes, but can you see the owl? This would make a great quick and easy gift.

A Little Bit o' Yarnin'

I hope that you had a very Merry Christmas. We sure did! I have the luxury of having a job that closes for two weeks for the holidays, so I've got plenty of time on my hands to get some knitting and crocheting done. So far I've made this hat for my very dear friend Tiffany for Christmas...

When I started the Early Morning Beret by Hannah Fettig it was free, but by the time I got to the decrease part she had added it to her Simple Beret pattern, which is a pay-for pattern. I don't mind paying for a pattern that I particularly like, but Christmas gift-giving had left me as broke as a church mouse, so I looked at the JC Slouchy Hat, a free pattern by Sandra Ruppert, to get an idea of how to do the decreases for this type of hat to get the top to look like I wanted. Overall I like how it turned out, but I wish it was a little less dense and a little more floppy.

Then I made these two hats from the same pattern...

They are made from the L.A.M.B inspired hat free pattern by dexterchickk on Ravelry (you can also go directly to it on Craftster, and if you scroll down you'll see pics). This was such a super-easy pattern and I love the way this hat turned out! I used the US H hook that was called for in the pattern and it resulted in a hat that I had to force on….I was hoping that this would be a good thing and that it would fit the 11 year old that I made it for perfectly, however, it was just as snug on her, so I made the second hat using a US J hook and that made it fit pretty comfortably on me. I haven't had the chance to give it to her yet, so hopefully it won't be TOO big on her. I do plan on making more of these hats!

Once that was done I came across this pin on Pinterest and it inspired me to make another Log Cabin Washcloth, from the free pattern by Purl Soho that I had enjoyed in the past.  (Go directly to the pattern on the purl bee here.)

I stopped before the last "round" because it was as big as I wanted it at this point. That's one really awesome thing about a log cabin knit...it's easy to make it as big or small as you'd like! As before, I really enjoyed this pattern. I don't know why in the world I don't make more of these, or at the very least, more log cabin projects!

A Note About Pinterest

I absolutely love when I get the chance to sit down and relax and pilfer through Pinterest. What an addicting wealth of goodness! ...and I am so honored when, in spite of my hiatus from blogging, people pin me! Whether it be my art and/or journalingmy own pattern, or something that I've created from someone else's pattern that has inspired a fellow crocheter or knitter. So to my fellow pinners that find me and/or my work worthy of pinning......

Spammers

Hey friends,

I receive notification emails almost daily (and sometimes as much as two or three times a day) of spammers trying to leave comments on my blog posts. Luckily, Blogger has caught them and not actually posted them on my blog so far. However, as much as I hate word verifications when I go to post a comment on someones blog, I've had to enable it. I do hope you guys will bear with me and tolerate the word verification...at least for now.

Thanks guys!

ASE....Keepin' it Real Update

Hello my friends! I want to send a special thank you to my friends Laura Thykeson, and Lisa for your encouraging comments on my original post. They really meant alot to me. Last night another very lovely fellow blogger, Annette, left me such an encouraging and supportive comment and it prompted me to give you all an update.  (Annette also just posted a free pattern for a beautiful crocheted blanket on her blog. If you crochet you absolutely HAVE to check it out!)

Weight Watchers lasted all of a day or two because I didn't have the time (I'm working full-time at the pregnancy center now), nor the money to go to the meetings each week and found their website as far from user-friendly as you can get and their apps for my android were even worse. I did however start following the Paleo way of eating and basically cutting sugar, grains, and beans from my diet (except for the occasional splurge) and since doing so have lost 8.4 lbs! I'm still working at it and have a long way to go, but I am on my way and already feeling much healthier!

Thanks again my friends!
Please keep me in your prayers.
Love you guys!!

A Sweet Treat

Guess what I've been dabbling in????
It's my very first cake (that I made for someone else, anyway)!
What do you think? I sure did enjoy making it.

Hope you have a wonderfully sweet week!!

ASE....Keepin' it Real???

Since I've started working at the pregnancy center I really haven't had much free time to knit and/or crochet, which means less knitting and crochet-oriented posts. The resulting quagmire is whether or not I make a post if it doesn't relate to knitting and/or crochet...

What do you think?

----♥----

So, I was grocery shopping today and a little girl (around 3/4) kept telling what I assumed was her grandma, "she's fat.....she's fat"....broke my heart....the grandma never said anything like, "honey, we don't say things like that" which really bothered me, but I couldn't really get mad at the little girl because....it's true. I do wonder though, who teaches 3/4 year olds that someone is "fat"? They have to learn it somewhere......
Not only was my heart was broken, I was mortified! As soon as I got home I joined Weight Watchers online. The worst part? The grown up didn't even try to correct her....it's ok...I had my cry...then prayed...ALOT...then talked to Wayne....in the end, I'm hoping to use WW to get back on the right track and we'll see how I proceed from there.
I stepped on the scale today and I haven't gained back any of the weight that I'd already lost (whoot!), but I haven't lost any more either.
In the past, I've had people ask me when I was "due" (when I was alot smaller than I am now) and had other "babies" make comments about me being fat, but today's events have sure given me a kick in the pants...just pray for me....I'm really going to need God to succeed...

Thank you my friends.
